Farah Leigh Mackenzie worked for Scotland Yard for many years and for all of those years she had been alone. Though now the secret will be used by Dorian, a man that had kidnapped her and will be the one who will marry her.

The Highwayman is the first book to the series Victorian Rebels by Kerrigan Byrne. This is a new author for me and I will have to say that I really liked this book. There were parts that were yes a little slow but the author was creating the scene.

The beginning of the book intrigued me. I was taken back to a movie that my mom watched, The Saint, when he was in the orphanage. You knew right away there was no hope for them but you hoped anyways.

Dorian’s character broke my heart. He was so cruel and broken, he became a shell of a man that he used to be. Though through all of that he still knew that Farah was the one he searched for, the one he protected. There was kindness there, he just didn’t know how to show it towards her since he had known cruelty for so long. Farah’s character was a woman who was strong and lonely but she did what she could. I loved that she was devoted to the boy that she loved so many years ago and still loved. She was a strong woman who held her ground and was just overall compassionate. There was also a secret that Farah kept which was about her past that I found interesting. That will come into play later in the book. Together Dorian and Farah should not work but together they are perfect for one another especially as she begins to heal the man that is buried deep inside of Dorian.

I am reading the second book to this series next.
