Army Special Forces Sgt. Brady Scott was back home from the military trying to start his life again. Brady knew he was holding back which was why he was trying to get therapy for his problems that were from his past. Brady will get sidetracked when a one night stand comes into his life.
Joss Daniels has had a rocky childhood and things in her adult life weren’t going so great. Joss was determined to give herself a stable life and low risk, though when she meets Brady she can’t help but take a chance.
One Night with a Hero is the second and final book to the Hero series by Laura Kaye. I really liked this book, I liked it better than the first book. I guess it held my attention throughout the book and I thought that the characters had drawn me in to the story very quickly.
Both of the characters are connected with their childhood traumas. Joss had grown up in an orphan while Brady lost his mother and in turn lost his father who had changed into a anger driven man. I liked Brady for the most part but he took too long to realize that he had screwed up, though he did make up for his mistake. I loved how he tried to woo Joss back, he did it right. Joss’s character I liked as well. For her I thought she should have given him another chance to explain, but of course that didn’t happen, at least not right away.
I only have one more book in my list to read for Laura Kaye, at least for the moment, Hearts in Darkness, which I will be reading next.
Former Army Special Forces Sgt. Marco Vieri was back home due to an injury and was trying to get his life back. Though all he wanted was his old life. Things will get turned around when he finds his best friends sister coming back home and working in the same bar. He will suddenly not see his best friends little sister but a woman.
Alyssa Scott was back home fresh out of college and ready to work. She gets a job at Whiskey’s where Marco Vieri worked, the man she had loved for many years. She will try to pursue a relationship with him but it will not be an easy task as Marco has walls built up that she will have to get around.
Her Forbidden Hero is the first book to the series Hero by Laura Kaye. So I liked the book but I felt at times it didn’t hold my attention.
The character of Alyssa bugged me a little as I felt she was a little naive when it came to Marco. She thought nothing had changed, that he was the same man she knew when she was a kid. But he had gone to war and survived an injury. Inside Marco he was broken. She does start to understand that and I do like her character especially as she is a fighter and wants to do things on her own. I also appreciated knowing about Alyssa’s past which played a big part of who she had become. So Marco’s character as I said is a little broken from all that he had gone through but he was not finished. He was like a man just walking through life and it took Alyssa to wake him up.
Brady is also introduced in this book who is Alyssa’s big brother. Brady’s story is the second and final book which I will be reading next.
Kady Dresco worked hard when it came to her profession and she will find herself with some competition when a military contract was in her grasp. She wouldn’t mind doing anything with Colton but he never wanted to take it further. She was seen as his best friends sister, but that will all change when a monsoon keeps them grounded.
Colton Brooks wanted his best friends sister but knew that he could not have her. He had come close to having her three years ago but he stopped. He knew that Kady would never be up for what he liked in bed but temptation will have him going towards Kady once again.
Dare to Resist is a novella in Wedding Dare series which is contributed by several authors. I liked this novella. It was a fast paced story, filled with two interesting characters and it will get steamy. This is definitely on the verge of dom and sub but Laura Kaye doesn’t take it all the way. It was more like Colton liked rough sex and incidental so did Kady at least when it is with Colton.
Kady’s character was a strong willed woman who could let herself have fun but working hard was a big priority. Colton was sarcastic and very serious with a sensual side which lets him get as many women as he would want. The one thing they had in common was computer coding. There was another thing they had in common which was lust. They wanted each other and when they get together it is steamy.
Within the story there is not tons of things happening but I think Laura Kaye does a good job getting you to like the characters and creating a detailed background.
I am sticking with Laura Kaye to read several more of her stories and the next one I am reading is Her Forbidden Hero.
Jessica Jakes was on the run from some men who wanted her friends dead. Jess gets some help from a fellow tattoo artist, named Ike Young. He will take her somewhere safe but with them alone and in close proximity things will start to heat up.
Hard as Steel is a novella that is part of the Hard Ink series by Laura Kaye. I really liked this novella. I had wondered about Jess’s character who was another tattoo artist. She had been brought into the dangerous situation but I hadn’t seen her story linked with the series, then I found this novella.
I was definitely interested in reading Jess’s story because I wanted to know if there was more to the mystery with these soldiers. Now I have already read the rest of the series so I know the conclusion, but I had wondered if more detail was going to be given. Within the book there was no new detail about the soldiers except what had been found out in the other books.
Ike’s character was a man of few words. He closed himself off and did not let people know the real him. Though there will be one to break threw the exterior, Jess. So Jess’s character is a woman who likes to have fun and be wild. This will get her into trouble when a one night stand will bring danger to her and her friends. There is a vulnerable side to Jess which is mostly due to her past with what happened to her father. Ike had a similar past with a death that he places all the blame on his shoulders. I thought that the input of the background stories were a good addition as it gave the story more depth.
Within the book Ike and Jess fight the attraction but it is a loosing battle. They will find that passion together and it will ignite the pages. Laura Kaye writes those steamy scenes well.
There is one more book to the Hard Ink series which I will be reading when it comes out. Laura Kaye has also started another series which stars the Raven Riders that were introduced in the Hard Ink series. The first book does not come out until April of 2016.
Justin Bricker has watched many of his fellow immortals pair off with their life mates. He wanted his life mate mostly for the sex but when he finds her there will be a problem. His life mate is already married.
Holly Bosley was going back to her temp job when she will be surprised by some intruders. Holly’s life will forever be changed from the one that she knows as she will be turned into an immortal.
About a Vampire is the twenty second book to the series Argeneau Family by Lynsay Sands. I thought that the book was not bad. It was certainly Lynsay Sands writing which is entertaining but I wasn’t loving it like the earlier books of her series.
I have been waiting for Justin’s story for a while and while I liked it I was kind of disappointed. He was just way to immature for my taste. Although that is pretty much his personality and Lynsay Sands keeps his character true to how he had been written. I guess I didn’t like him as much because it was now focused solely on him. But there were parts that I liked in the book. There was that humor that Sands writes well like with how Decker and Anders get back at Justin. Also towards the end of the book I felt that Justin did mature a lot with how to deal with his life mate. Holly’s character was okay. She was married and didn’t want to cheat on her husband which was good. I was wondering how Sands would let Holly and Justin be together. The ending she writes lets that happen and I will say it gets a little cheesy but with that ending everyone is happy.
Now although this wasn’t my favorite I know that I will continue reading the series when another book comes out.
Sherry Carne was a successful business woman but was unlucky in love. That will all change when a young girl runs into her shop and hides from four men who barged into the store. Sherry will find herself immersed into a world that was hidden from her and she will not be alone any longer.
Basileios “Basil” Argeneau is one of the oldest immortals. He had lost his mate right as Atlantis had fallen and has not found another life mate since then. That will change for Basil when he meets Sherry. Though before he can get her to agree to be changed he will have to protect her from danger.
The Immortal Who Loved Me is the twenty-first book to the Argeneau Family series by Lynsay Sands. Alright so I thought that this book was good, it wasn’t my favorite. Throughout this series there have been amazing books, great books, and good books. I guess I felt that Sherry and Basil went straight to having sex right away. I’m okay with that but I wanted a little more from the characters before they let the life mate passion overwhelm them. I found Sherry’s character a little strange at times but she was interesting being that she was very outspoken. Basil’s character was calm and collected. I found him interesting as he was Lucian’s brother. I can’t remember if he was in the previous books but overall I liked his character.
There was another character that I liked in the book which was Stephanie. Stephanie was a young girl that was changed to a non fanger by Leo as well as her sister Dani. I really can’t wait to read Stephanie’s story which I would assume Lynsay Sands will be writing. In this book she was playing matchmaker, she was like a mini Marguerite.
What kept me going was the mystery of the immortal that had been in Sherry’s life. It appeared that the mystery immortal had controlled Sherry as they programmed certain answers for her to respond when she was asked about a certain person. The answers are given and it was intriguing but at the same time not great with what the immortal did.
On a side note I loved reading about Lucian and Leigh. You got to know what was happening with them which made me happy especially with how they had a tragedy several books back.
I have About a Vampire, which is with Justin. Justin has been a character that has been in the series for quite awhile and I am looking forward to reading his story next.
Lisa Sommerville needed a break from her life. She was worn out from all the work she does and decided to come back home for the summer. Lisa will be shocked to find that there is a new person in her town and it just happened to be the man she had a one night stand with.
Gray Neely needed a change in location and took a chance on Buckhorn. He loved the small town and was looking forward to moving on. Then Gray will see the woman that has haunted his dreams after a steamy one night stand. Gray knows that he can’t let this opportunity slip and will make sure Lisa knows he wants more than one night together.
A Buckhorn Summer is the eighth book to the Buckhorn Brothers series by Lori Foster. I am really enjoying these stories. I am so happy that Lori Foster decided to write about the kids of these alpha males.
Lisa is a workaholic but has finally burned out. She needed a break and the best place for her was home. I liked Lisa. She was a strong woman and she had to be with her father and all of her uncle’s and cousins who were the macho males. Now Gray’s character was another macho male but he was a little bit broken due to his injury he had gotten on the job. I liked that Gray was one that didn’t tiptoe around a subject, he just asked or said what he needed to, well he did for the most part. The part about his injury was a very sore subject. You do find out about what happened which was tragic.
The sexual chemistry is again leaping off the pages just like in the other two novellas. Lisa and Gray are very steamy when they get together and there is no stopping them. It is humorous with all of Lisa’s family eyeing Gray but it made sense as they didn’t want him to break Lisa’s heart. Well aside from the sex there is a little danger that happens in the book. I was wondering if the threat would be bigger but in the end it was not what I was thinking.
Now having finished these novellas my only thought is when will Amber’s story be coming out and Adam’s. I want more and hopefully Lori Foster will be continuing the series.
Zoey Hodge was back in her hometown to help her mother. Back when she was a teen Zoey’s ex boyfriend got into an accident and was killed, Zoey was blamed for the golden boy dying. When she comes back there will be those who still blame her but she could always count on the Hudson family to have her back, especially Garrett.
Garrett Hudson had a crush on Zoey when they were younger and he will find that his crush was not over. With Zoey back home he finds himself thinking of the possibility of spending more time with her. Garrett will find plenty of excuses to stay around especially when it looked like Zoey could be in danger.
Back to Buckhorn is the seventh book to the Buckhorn Brothers series by Lori Foster. I really liked this novella. Another great story from Lori Foster.
I really liked how Foster wrote Zoey’s character. Zoey was a free spirit and did not let things get to her. She accepted things and moved on. Well her attraction to Garrett was one thing she would never let go. I felt for Zoey when she came back to town and how there were some that still thought she was to blame for her ex’s death which it clearly wasn’t. The boy made the mistake and he faced the consequences which was sad for his family.
Amber is playing matchmaker throughout these books which is humorous. She is a force to be reckon with. I hope that Lori Foster will write a story with Amber and then another story but with Adam.
The last book that I am reading from the Buckhorn Brothers series is A Buckhorn Summer, which I will be reading next.
Animal Attraction is a collection of stories that are definitely on the steamy side. I picked up this book for one reason which was the story from Lori Foster. I had just found out that Lori Foster is continuing the Buckhorn Brothers series. I have read that series over and over, and loved it every time. So far it looks like Lori Foster has written three novella’s that further the series but it is with the kids of these original brothers.
Buckhorn Ever After is the sixth book to the Buckhorn Brothers series. Shohn is the son of Sawyer and Honey, and Casey’s little brother. The plot is simple, Shohn will find himself attracted to Nadine and will find an excuse to spend time with her and to make her believe he was serious. I was excited that Lori Foster was continuing the series with the kids. So I thought that this book was a great addition to the series. I will say that this book seemed much more steamy than the others, but as I think about it the others books were just as steamy except there was more detail in the plot. Buckhorn Ever After was a novella which always makes the situations go much faster.
I loved Shohn. He was another alpha male whose job was a park ranger and he took his job very seriously. He was certainly a player but one with a good heart who had come from a good family. I liked that Shohn was persistent with his intent to be with Nadine and I loved how his new animal would not leave him alone. Nadine owned a pet hotel. She was a friendly person but her character was also cautious. She had wanted Shohn and loved him since she was a kid but she was in the friend zone. Of course that changes when Shohn becomes determined to be with Nadine, and you want a man like Shohn to pursue you.
The other three stories to this collection I decided to read as well. I have never read anything from these other authors, Heidi Betts, Maisey Yates, and Jules Bennett, and I have to say that I liked them. They were again very steamy and had some humorous situations that added to the plot.
I will be reading the seventh story to the Buckhorn Brothers series next.
Troy Davenport had left his family and the family business to pursue art which had been his calling. His art will lead him to many places and to his next muse, Miranda Granger. He will want more than anything to paint her but Troy had to convince her.
Miranda Granger had been ruined nine years ago only no one knew that fact. Miranda keeps herself distant from any man that might want more from her. She will be very weary when it came to Troy but she found he was bringing back emotions that had long ago buried.
A Midnight Clear is the first book to the series Edwardian Nights by Kristina Cook. I really loved this novel. Kristina Cook writes so that you love the characters, so that you connect with them through the good and bad things that happen to them.
I liked Miranda’s characters as she felt real. She had made a mistake and for the past 10 years she was not allowed to really forget that. She is almost like a doormat but underneath there is a woman with fire and courage to live again. It takes a charming painter to bring that out of her. Troy was that charming painter. He was a rogue but not in a villainous way or one that flaunted his affairs. If anything Troy almost lived under the radar which made sense as he wanted to be known as Troy the painter and not be connected to his wealthy family.
So within this novel there are no real enemies but I will say that I really disliked Gertie. I thought at first she was just immature. Well she is that but she is also vengeful when it comes to her older sister. I really didn’t like that Kristina Cook didn’t give us some conclusion with Gertie getting into trouble. I did like how Cook ended the book but I wanted to know that Gertie wouldn’t get away with what she had done.
Well I am done with reading Kristina Cook’s at least for now. I hope that she will continue with this series and maybe the next person will be with Caroline.
