Qhuinn had thought he always wanted a female to mate with and to have a young, but it was difficult when he had feelings for his best friend. His feelings were getting more powerful especially when he realized that those feelings had turned to love. Qhuinn was going to take a chance and show Blay how he truly felt.
Lover at Last is the eleventh book to the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J.R. Ward. So I liked the book because it was with Blay and Qhuinn and their struggle with being together. What I found distracting was all the other stories that were being told. This is nothing new to the series but there are times I wish that the the books were a little more focused in on one story per book. I wanted more with Blay and Qhuinn especially as the last several books had been leading up to this moment. Though the book was good.
I liked Qhuinn’s character. He was a good warrior but he couldn’t win the inner struggle that he had inside him. Qhuinn loved Blay but it was too late as Blay found someone to be with. Though we know that Ward wouldn’t let that happen especially as Blay truly loved Qhuinn and only him. Now Blay’s character was always quiet and steady. He loved Qhuinn for many years and your heart broke for him. I was okay with Saxton being with Blay because I knew that it would not be forever. Blay becomes a little cold in the book but it was understandable as he was trying to distance himself from Qhuinn. So the whole distancing from each other will not work obviously which will bring a happy ending. This was an ending I really liked. It was sweet and a little corny but I couldn’t help but like it.
Alright so one of the stories in the book that I didn’t mind was when Layala was around and how her pregnancy was progressing and the problems that occurred. I wanted everything to be right with Layala and not so she and Qhuinn could have a happy ending together, because that wasn’t going to happen, but so she can have someone to truly love. Though with how the story is going with Layala I am guessing that she wouldn’t be alone, there will be another in her life and that will not be with Qhuinn. At least that is a guess with the direction Ward seems to be going towards.
Tohrment otherwise known as Tohr has been mourning the loss of his mate since her untimely death. He has become a shell of himself. Tohr will have to move on when he is told that his beloved is stuck and in order for her to move on to the Fade Tohr has to find love again.
Lover Reborn is the tenth book to the series Black Dagger Brotherhood by J.R. Ward. This was a very good book. I thought that this story was well written with how much heartache there was with Tohr. You believed that he was in pain over the loss of his mate.
Tohr had disappeared for several books because of that pain and when he had come back to the Brotherhood he was not the same. I was drawn to Tohr’s story. I wanted him to find that happiness which is exactly what he had to do to save the mate he had lost. That was a horrible thing that Tohr had to try but as many know that with every death you have to move on. Tohr gets some help from an angel who is definitely not the typical kind of angel. I found Autumn an enduring character. She was a victim that was staying a victim in her own torment. Though I don’t think she was ruining everything that could make her happy. For some of those moments she was trying to spare Tohr some heartbreak.
The villain in this book was Xcor whose mission is to kill the King. They will get ruthless but they are still not the Lessers who are the ultimate enemy with the Omega as their leader.
So the situation with Tohr’s mate is that she is in the “In Between” which is like purgatory and she is fading. If she doesn’t go into the Fade then she will just disappear. It was a heartbreaking situation as Tohr was losing his mate all over again. Well don’t worry everything will work out how it will need to be.
Payne has been released from her prison only to find herself in another one when she is seriously injured. Her brother will make sure she does not stay paralyzed as he will bring in a doctor, Manuel Manello, to fix her. Payne, however, was ready to die that is until she meets her healer.
Manuel Manello had lost one of his best friends a year ago, but will soon find out that she is not completely gone when he is pulled into a very strange situation. Manny never believed that vampires were real, that is until he met a whole group of them. He will help heal Payne and find that he will not want to leave her side, but knows they have no future.
Unleashed is the ninth book to the series Black Dagger Brotherhood by J.R. Ward. Another great book to the series. I found that I flew through the pages with this book. I thought it was interesting with the new character, Payne, and revisiting with Manny.
From the previous book I thought Manny was alright but in this one I was liking his character. I liked that he become tongue tied and not as cocky as he had been. He wants Payne pretty much right away and the feeling is mutual. Payne for me was like the other Chosen. She was very new to this world but what she has that the Chosen do not are the fighting skills. They have no problem with chemistry but what they do have a problem with is the future and how they can have a relationship.
Well with the last enemy not really in the book you know that Ward has to find another one and it will be from the past when the Bloodletter was alive, and the Bloodletter is V’s and Payne’s dad. Right now that enemy is staying hidden but I have no doubt he will come back to the Brothers to complete his mission.
The story of Qhuinn and Blay continue on and it gets interesting when it looked like Qhuinn was having almost a vision. Its a vision he never want to happen, which makes me wonder if Qhuinn will ever find happiness? Also with how things stand will these friends ever be together? I looked ahead with the summary’s of the books and found that Qhuinn’s story is coming in the eleventh book. Of course you will still hear about him in the tenth book which I will be reading next.
John Matthew has wanted one woman since he had first seen her and now she was in danger. John and the Brothers searched until they found Xhex and brought her back. The trouble will not be over for them because Xhex’s kidnapper is still out there and John will do anything to help her.
Lover Mine is the eighth book to the series Black Dagger Brotherhood by J.R. Ward. I really liked this book. I was pulled in right away. I have been waiting for John’s story since he was pretty much brought into the series. I wanted him to find happiness with all that he had gone through.
So John’s character had lived through a tragic past that effected him as an adult. He finds something with Xhex but it is over before it could really begin. I liked that John never truly gave up on her. He kept fighting. I also liked that he was able to open up to Xhex, he was able to tell her about his past. His past and her present was a shared experience that they had. Xhex will have been taken prisoner by Lash and will be sexually assaulted for weeks. She will find her way out but she is broken, though not all the way. She is still a fighter and keeps going. I liked how Ward writes Xhex and John’s relationship. They healed each other by sharing, by moving on.
The bad guy is clearly Lash who is a sadistic man. For those who read this series will know that Lash was now different and the enemy. I knew that when his transformation happened there would be trouble and he would be an enemy that would cause problems.
So there are two characters who are John’s friends, Blay and Qhuinn. Blay loves Qhuinn but Qhuinn wouldn’t be with Blay. I want them to be happy together but that really doesn’t look like an option. It is also ruining a friendship. If they don’t get together then I just want them to be able to move on. There are times in the book that it gets a little much with the agony of not being able to be together, though it did the trick because I want them together. I am sure that their story or at least one of their stories will be told in the series.
Rehvenge is a dangerous man that has worked with the Brotherhood but there is another side to his life. It is this life that will have someone approach him to kill the King. Rehvenge has to make a decision otherwise the life that he had been hiding will be uncovered.
Lover Avenged is the seventh book to the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by JR Ward. Well I did like this one but I will say that at times I felt lost or maybe overwhelmed would be a better answer. There were a lot of stories that are being told which got overwhelming. This book was also the longest one so far in the series. So aside from being a little overwhelmed at times I did enjoy the story and this other world of symphaths.
Rehvenge’s character was a darker character as he was leading two lives and one of his lives would make him an outcast. His other side is a symphath which is someone who can manipulate feelings in others. He was not always a nice guy but when you got to know him better you know that there is more to him. I liked seeing the softer side with him when he met up with Ehlena. Ehlena was the other main character who was Rehvenge’s love interest. She was another lonely soul like Rehvenge, in her own way she was an outcast, which made them almost perfect for each other. Though it would never be an easy way between them until Rehvenge came clean to what he was doing and who he really was.
John’s story is coming up so his activity in the book is making himself known more. I hated what he was doing to himself, he was having numerous amounts of sex with woman he didn’t even like all because he thought he was not worthy of one. I want him to find that happiness with Xhex, though that will be in the next story. Although there will be a problem because at the end of this book something will happen that will make trouble for John and Xhex.
Phury chose to sacrifice himself for the Brotherhood and become the Primale. He will have to mate with the Chosen to secure the new generation. Phury though will not want the responsibility especially when he starts to feel things for one of the Chosen in particular.
Chosen Cormia was ready to be the First Mate but it appeared that the Primale didn’t want her. Cormia was heartbroken as she started to feel things for this man. She will have to sacrifice her happiness to make sure that her kind prevailed.
Lover Enshrined is the sixth book to the series Black Dagger Brotherhood by JR Ward. So I really liked this book. I thought it was well written like the others. I had been waiting for Phury’s story and to find out more about him but there were problems for me with the book. Alright they aren’t serious problems but there were parts to the book that got me annoyed, though I had to keep reading the book because I had to make sure that a happy ending happened.
Phury’s character is flawed with the drugs and guilt that he feels for his twin and how he thinks he loves his brothers mate. I wanted to shake Phury and tell him that it wasn’t real love like what he could have for Cormia. I also wanted to yell at him for not going with Cormia. He kept looking towards her sisters which if he completed the mating then she would be heartbroken. Honestly Phury was his own worst enemy. So then the character of Cormia was very much like an innocent. Everything in the world to her was new and strange. Though what she felt for Phury as she got to know him was real. I wanted her to find that chance with Phury but he kept pushing her away.
Towards the end of the book I was really wondering if there was going to be a happy ending between Phury and Cormia because there were too many obstacles around them. I was left happy especially as there was another surprise at the end that dealt with the Brotherhood.
There has always been a lot going on in this series with each book but I felt that this one has even more. One side story is with John and his two buddies, which will parallel with Lash’s story. I am really looking forward to reading John and about his two friends stories which I know that they will have their own story. Now Lash was a bully and it seems that he is even more of one now, and he is bad news. I have no doubt that he will be trouble later on in the series.
So I am continuing the series with the seventh book.
Vishous, son of the Bloodletter, who will find himself stepping into a new job that didn’t involve the brotherhood thanks to his mother. Vishous will not want the job especially when he meets Jane.
Dr. Jane Whitcomb had lead a tough life. She worked hard and was determined. She will find herself in trouble when a man who she worked on in the ER will take her when his friends break him out of the hospital. She will find that these are not average men and that her future will be forever changed.
Lover Unbound is the fifth book to the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by JR Ward. So I have started my marathon with Ward and I thought that this book was another great one. I was excited to read about Vishous as I wanted to know more about him.
Well this story was not a happy one especially with the past events that had happened in Jane’s, Vishous’s and John’s life. Each of them had a sad past but that made them who they were. Jane’s past was full of neglect from her family when she was younger. Her parents ignored her when her sister was alive and then ignored her when her sister had died. You wanted to yell at the parents for doing that to her. Now Vishous’s past was horrifying with what his father had done to him all those years ago. Vishous though was able to survive and be part of the brotherhood. I found his character interesting as for most of the series he seemed attracted to Butch or at least their friendship, though when Jane comes into his life things change. He falls for Jane and falls for her hard. Their lives though are not full of happiness. There will be a tragic event that will happen which surprised me. I wasn’t sure how that was going to work for the couple but Ward will make sure that things worked out.
So John’s character as I said has a past full of tragedy and you can guess what happened to him when he was younger. I want to read his story especially now that he has made the transition to the Brotherhood. Though I will have to wait because first it will be Phury’s story.
Butch O’Neal has been working for the brotherhood as a civilian but that will all change when he is taken by the enemy. During his torture Butch will change and change to what he was truly born to be.
Marissa was an outcast among her kind as the newest king had rejected her service. Marissa will soon find a new purpose to her life and find a man that has her wanting more.
Lover Revealed is the fourth book to the series Black Dagger Brotherhood by JR Ward. Really loved this book, it was another great addition to this series. I had read the first three books awhile ago and could not get enough of them. So I decided to pick up more of the books to the series and will have a marathon of the Black Dagger Brotherhood.
Alright so the character of Marissa was shy and quiet within the other books, she was almost submissive as these woman were supposed to be. Within the other books I never really disliked her just thought that she was a side character, but in this book I liked her a lot more. In this book she gets her voice and comes out of her shell. Then there was Butch. In the first book I thought he as a cocky and a little arrogant, well he is still that but by being with the brotherhood he has become a better man.
I liked the fighting that happened within the book especially because that was how everything started to change when it came to Butch. The lessers are the enemy of the Brotherhood and they are at constant battle. Butch will get a lot more up close and personal which will lead to some strange changes.
So the mystery of Butch and how he might be part of the brotherhood was interesting to me. You don’t find out all the particulars until the very end. I was happy that Ward did give an explanation why there was so much misery in Butch’s life.
My book club has read many types of books that have either made me cry, laugh, be frustrated and dislike the novel to loving the novel. The women who run the club decided to try a graphic comic. Alright so I have read comics before when I was a kid but that had been about fifteen years ago since the last comic I read. I actually think it was about Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Can’t We Talk About Something More Pleasant? is by Roz Chast who illustrates comics but this one was about her parents and her life. I thought the illustrations were really well done and I loved that she put in several pictures that she had taken of her parents house and included them into the story. I was very entertained with the book. It was crazy, silly, serious and it felt real. There were plenty of moments that I cringed at but I could see happening.
In the beginning of the story there were plenty of laugh out loud moments. It had been a while since I really laughed out loud when reading a story. Though towards the middle of the story the mood changed. When that happened I was reminded of my grandparents. I will say that I did get a little teary towards the end of the story.
I thought that this book was a great intro back into comics and I am excited to try some more graphic novels. The women who run the book club gave us a list of other graphic novels that were like this one but I think I will go with a different topic, maybe something scary.
Liz was a normal woman working at a 9 to 5 job with a roommate that was a little eccentric. Her world will be flipped upside down when her roommate will be killed and people want her dead and the ring that had belonged to her roommate. Liz will quickly find that there was another world out there, a supernatural world, and she was now part of it.
Vampire Dead-tective is the first novella to the series Dead-tective by Mac Flynn. So first off I liked the book. I had gotten it free on amazon for the kindle. I thought it sounded interesting with a vampire and human having to work together.
The story held some humor with these two characters. Liz was a normal human who thought that vampires didn’t exist. She asks a lot of questions, gets no answers, and I believe is in shock pretty much throughout the story, though I couldn’t really blame her given the situation. Then there is Vincent who is the vampire. He is sarcastic and mean with a strange sense of humor. He doesn’t want to be around Liz or to be tied to her. I would think that if his life was at risk then he would be a little nicer to the person who could end his life.
So what I found interesting with the story was the ring that both Liz and Vincent wore which tied them together. You find that out pretty quickly. Then there is the special abilities that Liz acquires which I would assume she will get better using as the series goes on, at least I would hope.
It looks like the series is with five novellas which you can get on amazon, though only the first one is free. I know that I will be back to read more from Mac Flynn especially as I would like to find out what had happened to Tim, Liz’s roommate, and why he had taken off the ring that had helped end his life.
