Miss Frederica “Free” Marshall was a woman who had started her own paper that was written by women and for women. She will quickly find that she had made an enemy and one man will be there to help her.
Edward Clark wanted revenge against his brother for what James was going to do to Stephan. He will find himself helping out Stephan’s employer who was another target of James.
The Suffragette Scandal is the fourth book from the series Brother Sinister by Courtney Milan. I really loved this book.
Free’s character was really fantastic. She had been mentioned early on and had a small part here and there through the series but it was now her turn. She was a woman who wanted to change the world. She was making sure that women had a voice through her paper. She was fearless with all that she did but she wasn’t completely fearless as the things that she had done gave her nightmares at times. Then there is Edward’s character that is out for revenge against his brother who had abandoned him at war. Edward also wanted to set things right for the men who were his true family. Now even though Edward’s character was pretty cruel at times with his blackmail schemes he will show that he is someone who wants more when it comes to Free.
Free and Edward would not have worked if he had been a nobleman but he had renounced that title, at least for now. She falls for the man that Edward had become. Now they have that insistent mistrust when dealing with each other but that will change when feelings start to get involved.
The villain in this piece was certainly James, Edward’s brother. He was not the most evil villain but he was definitely a bad guy especially with what he will attempt to do to Free and what he did to his own brother.
Violet Waterfield, widowed Countess of Cambury, leads a double life. The life that society sees is the Countess of Cambry who follows the rules of society. The other life is one where she is a scientist that has been published, but she could not take the credit as Sebastian Malhuer was the one to pretend it was his work. Though it will all change when Sebastian can’t take it anymore.
The Countess Conspiracy is the third book from the series Brother Sinisters by Courtney Milan. I absolutely loved this book. I will have to say that for me there is no favorite for the series as I have loved each book so far. With this book it centers in on Sebastian and Violet.
I liked Violet. From the previous books I had always thought that she was confident, yet quiet. You get to find out more with her character and I knew it right away the secret that she had been hiding. The secret is of course her being the scientist, not Sebastian like Courtney Milan had written. That secret was found out very early into the book. I was shocked but with how the author writes about radical changes this secret of Violet being the true scientist it makes sense. Violet’s background story was heartbreaking with what she had to endure and you cheered for her to realize that it would be okay to take that risk with Sebastian.
Now Sebastian was a good man but his character was almost comical for he was almost never serious or never taken serious. It was a problem for him that he struggled because he wanted his brother to be proud of him. Both of these characters struggled with finding acceptance with family and their peers. I liked Sebastian as you knew that he truly loved Violet, it wasn’t just seduction. It was actually sweet with how he had loved Violet for most of his life.
It would appeared that they were opposites with Violet’s temperament to stay quiet and out of sight while Sebastian was not scared of making himself known in a crowd, but they were very well matched.
I am reading the fourth book next, The Suffragette Scandal.
Miss Jane Fairfield was out to make herself look foolish so that no man would want to marry her, which would protect her sister. Jane had become very good at that task until she meets Oliver Marshall. He was the one man that she might want more from.
Mr. Oliver Marshall had a goal which was to have everything. He was after a vote and would do what he had to do to get that vote. Though he will find that he was having a trouble getting that goal with Jane Fairfield as his obstacle.
The Heiress Effect is the second book to the series Brothers Sinister by Courtney Milan. I was waiting for Oliver’s story and was not disappointed. I loved this book. There is a way that Courtney Milan weaves a story that makes you compelled to read the story word for word.
Oliver was a man that did not know his place in society but was determined to get his place, for himself and for his father. I liked his drive that he had, but he was also a good man. When everyone laughed at Jane he did not. He knew what it was like to be laughed at. Now Jane’s character was also determined. Everything she did was to help her sister. Jane endured a lot of humiliation during those days.
I wondered about the romance between Oliver and Jane. It was a very slow build kind of romance and it was sweet as they were very much alike. Though because of those similarities that made the romance hard to handle at times.
The villain was clearly the Marquess and you disliked him greatly for how he was using Oliver and threatening Jane. There was also another villain in this book which was Jane’s uncle. He wasn’t a bad man on purpose but he was one that didn’t listen to reason.
There were several side story’s with Emily, Jane’s sister, and then one with Free, Oliver’s sister. I liked these side stories. I know that Emily’s story is over but Free will have her own story soon.
Miss Lydia Charingford has lived through her own scandal and had come out with no one knowing anything. Then she will meet up with the man that had been in that room with her parents five years ago who knew the truth of her pregnancy. She will find out that Grantham will not tell anyone but a wager will be made between them.
Doctor Jonas Grantham has wanted Lydia for over a year but he had gotten nowhere with her. She does not like him but Jonas will find a way for them to spend time together so he could try to win her over.
A Kiss for Midwinter is a 1.5 novella in the series Brothers Sinister by Courtney Milan. First off I really loved this novella. It had been a while since I read the previous books to this series (The Governess Affaire and The Duchess War) so I decided to read them again to get back into the series. That prepared me for Lydia who was a very cheerful girl except she really wasn’t, she was faking that cheer to pretend to be alright. She doesn’t realize that she has suppressed all those emotions until Doctor Jonas Grantham reminds her of that time in her life. Now even though it was hard for Lydia to realize I liked that Jonas was there to see the truth. I liked the real Lydia much better who wasn’t just this cheerful girl that seemed naive. Then there was Jonas. He was sarcastic and had a strange sense of humor but he was a very good man. He cared for his patients and went out of his way to help them. I liked how he went about spending time with Lydia and also that he thought her strong, not weak as some might have thought.
When I checked out these first three books/novellas to the series I also checked out the rest that have come out, which are the book from two to five. Next I will be reading about Oliver Marshall in The Heiress Effect which I have been wanting to read.
Jeremy Rixey was a fun loving guy but found himself overwhelmed with all that had been happening to his brother and his brother’s teammates. He will find that one person will give him some peace, Charlie, who had suffered his own tragedy.
Hard to Be Good is a novella in the series Hard Ink by Laura Kaye. First off as you can see from the cover this is a male on male suspense romance book. I will admit I was apprehensive about the book but as it was part of the series I wanted to read all of the books. There was also the fact that I really loved Jeremy’s character from the very first book.
Well all I can say is wow. The sex scenes were intense and to be honest that was all there really was with the book, which was kind of disappointing. I wanted more with these characters, wanted more of a story not just a novella. Previously you had gotten to know the characters from the other books but I wanted more background, more of the build up with the romance. Now even with my wants of more detail I did truly like the novella and it was because of Jeremy and Charlie. I loved Jeremy who was so charismatic and bold while there was Charlie who was shy but a genius. Together they worked.
The mystery behind Nick and his men gets a little swept under the rug as the romance between Jeremy and Charlie take center stage. I have no doubt that the fourth book will bring more insight with this mystery that surrounds these men.
I am looking forward to reading the fourth book to the series.
Derek DiMarzio and his team are going after a lead which has them going after Garza. They know the best way to get to the ex-soldier is through the man’s sister, Emilie.
Emilie Garza was a therapist and good at her job but she had felt weak thanks to her ex-husband. She will feel alive again when a man, Derek, wants her. Though Emilie will soon find out that he doesn’t just want her but what information she can provide.
Hard to Come By is the third book to the series Hard Ink by Laura Kaye. I really liked this book. The story for me about the five soldiers is certainly moving along and looks like it will be over after two more books, unless more characters are introduced.
Derek is damaged like the rest of his team, he just had a bigger reminder with his leg missing. I liked Derek because he was a man that tried to make the best of things even in the worst of times. He will however make a mistake and lie to Emilie, which will be a problem done the line. Now Emilie is another strong woman that is in the book. Well she was fragile at times but overall a strong woman that was able to take all that was happening. I liked that there was not absolute trust after Derek screwed up as she had been burned before. If she trusted too easily it would not fit her character.
So the mystery of these soldiers betrayal starts to become clear with what had happened. They are getting more clues and a bigger break to find out what they need to know. There was a big reveal towards the end which I was not expecting but happy to read. I can’t wait to find out how that change of events will impact their investigation. I will hopefully find out something more when I read Hard to Be Good, which I will be reading next.
Edward “Easy” Cantrell job was to protect Jenna Dean but wasn’t there when she truly needed him. Now he will make sure that he is there for her after her traumatic experience with the drug dealers.
Jenna Dean had survived her torture but was not sure if she would survive after the ordeal. She found herself terrified every moment. She will bond with the one who had helped rescue her that night, Easy. She will find that she is not the only one that needs to be healed.
Hard to Hold on To is a novella which is part of the series Hard Ink by Laura Kaye. This novella is number 2.5 to the series, it was a novella that was worth the read and fit right into the series. It had been a while since I read the first two books but I will say that I fell right back into the series. The novella starts right off where the second book ended. Jenna is being brought back to Hark Ink Studio, she had been hurt and drugged.
I was intrigued to read this novella because I had gotten to know her character from the previous book. I wanted to know what had happened in that room as she sounded broken, luckily she had not gotten the torture that her sister had received four years ago. Nevertheless Jenna was harmed and was traumatized over the event. She makes a bond with Easy. I liked Easy, he was quiet but there was a dangerous side and damaged. They were both in need of healing.
The mystery of what had happened to these men was still up in the air. They are retrieving some information that is helping them decipher what had happened thanks to Sara from the previous book. What happened to these men to me was not the focal point of the book, it was Jenna and Easy. I didn’t mind that as I wanted to know more about Easy and Jenna. I’m sure that more information will come in the third book, which I will be reading next.
