Genevieve Barrett was highly intelligent which lead her to know that her father’s new student was up to something. She will be on her guard but will find that he will get under her skin and she will start to fall for the rake.
Sir Richard Harmsworth was out to find the Harmsworth Jewel which in his mind would help society accept him. Richard will find the jewel but Genevieve was blocking him from obtaining his heirloom. He will find his solution was to be seduction but as he got to know Genevieve he wanted more than just to steal the jewel back.
A Rake’s Midnight Kiss is the second book to the series Sons of Sin Trilogy by Anna Campbell. I had read the first one awhile ago so of course I re-read the first book then started off with the second book. Loved the second book. I was engrossed with the story right from the beginning. There was mystery, some evil doers and lust that turns to love.
Richard’s character was not an evil man but one who was on a mission to show society that he was worthy of being the heir. Richard was already worthy but he was not his true self and that was brought out with Genevieve. Now Genevieve’s character was smart and clever but that will not save her from Richard’s seduction. I liked that she was a bundle of emotions. A lot of the times she was strong but there was a lot of hurt that went along with her life, and she will be continued to be hurt with Richard who was not very truthful. I also liked that Richard had to work hard for the seduction because Genevieve did not just give into the seduction.
The Harmsworth Jewel was all that Richard cared about but there will be a little twist. I liked how Campbell wrote the jewel into the story and how it altered things for the characters. Now connected to the jewel are the thieves. There was Richard but there was another who wanted the jewel bad enough that they would do whatever they could to get it.
I have the third book to read which will be with Camden who is a duke that is connected with a scandalous history. I will be reading the third book next.
Christian Montcalm’s plan was to seduce an heiress and wed her. There was one problem that stood in his way which was Miss Annelise Kempton who tempted him like no other.
Annelise Kempton was not going to let her charge get seduced by Christian Montcalm. Though she did not expect him to turn the tables on her and try to seduce her as well.
The Devil’s Waltz is a novel by Anne Stuart which was one that I loved reading.
I loved Annelise’s character. She was a strong woman who had suffered loss but fought to keep going. I wanted her to find happiness in the arms of Christian but I also wanted her to hit him. He was a character that walked the line of villain and hero easily and Stuart writes those characters well. There are redeemable characteristics of Christian they are just buried deep. So really for a lot of the book I wanted to smack his head as well.
There were things I loved about this book and then there were things that got me annoyed. What annoyed me was Hetty. She was an annoying girl personally for me. She was too spoiled and headstrong, and didn’t think before she spoke. I didn’t want her to be with Christian as I wanted Annelise to be with him. I liked how Stuart wrote the scene that got me what I wanted. Though there were still problems that come from the book which prolonged that happy ending.
Now as I said Christian was like a villain but there were many in the book which could be thought of as a villain. The main one is like a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
As the book concludes I was happy with how Anne Stuart left Christian and Annelise with the epilogue especially with all the cruelty which surrounded the book.
Gwendolyn Wilder will be the most sensible person in her village but that will get her nowhere when the villagers believe that a dragon lives in the abandoned castle. The villagers believe to make the dragon happy a virgin sacrifice is needed and Gwendolyn is volunteered. She knows there is no dragon but she is still afraid of what will come to her when she comes to the castle.
The Bride and the Beast was fantastic. This is a novel by Teresa Medeiros and I couldn’t stop reading the story. Personally I think it is because it reminded me so much of Beauty and the Beast, which was my favorite story when I was a child. There was something enchanting with the story.
I loved Gwendolyn’s character. She was a woman of sense, was brave and tried to do what was right. It was kind of ridicules with the villagers and how they thought sacrificing Gwen would solve anything. I was kind of mad at the sisters who didn’t really fight to help their sister. The two older ones were not great sisters, at least Kitty had some sense even if it was a little. Now the Dragon as he called himself but his true identity was someone who was out for revenge. There was a need for revenge as that was what he had concentrated on for most of his life. There was no room for love for the Dragon but you knew Gwen would be the one to make him change.
There was a little surprise about the person who betrayed the Dragon’s family, which I had wondered about. Though the person who had betrayed the Dragon’s family will not be discovered until close to the very end. I liked that it was concluded and that the Dragon had to work for what he had lost with Gwen.
Sir Gideon Trevithick was on his way home when he finds a young woman nearly beaten to death struggling on the road. He will help her and get her safe. Even though with protecting her means he will have to marry her.
Lady Charis Weston was on the run from her step brothers who were cruel men that wanted her fortune. She will meet Gideon who will be her savior. She will still try to runaway to keep everyone safe.
Captive of Sin is a novel by Anna Campbell. Now after reading Tempt the Devil I was all set for my next Anna Campbell book. I started the book and I just couldn’t get into the story. I immediately stopped because it was actually very late when I started to read the book. I decided to pick it up in the morning and start over. Starting over the next morning helped greatly. Sometimes I am just too tired to read as I am looking at a computer screen all day.
Well once I started to reread the novel I started to enjoy the book. You were brought into a situation where this young woman who had been severally beaten by her stepbrothers and was on the run from her family. She was a strong character in an impossible situation. I liked that she still fought even when she was severally beaten, she didn’t give up. Gideon was the man that had found her and immediately helped. Gideon was an interesting character who had a hard past. I wanted him to be healed by Charis but he will not be too accepting.
I am on the look out for my next Anna Campbell book.
Olivia Raines is the most sought after courtesan in London. She chooses her partners carefully and leaves them when she is done with them. Lately she will be bored but when she meets Julian Southwood there is something that intrigues her and knows he will be her next protector.
Julian Southwood, Earl of Erith, was searching for his next mistress and will find her when he spots her in a crowd. He will want Olivia Raines from the moment he saw her and will get her, his need to possess her will be great. He will be able to capture his prey but will find out that there is more to Olivia than just a notorious courtesan.
Tempt the Devil is a novel by Anna Campbell. I have only read one other book from this author and remember loving it. This book is very much the same with my feelings, I thoroughly enjoyed the book. I could not put it down, even though I had to since I had to work, but it was a struggle. So when I did finish the book I was cheering and wanting to read more from Anna Campbell who is becoming an author that I will be on the look out for more of her books.
This book held some mystery of what Olivia was hiding in her past. I knew it would be tragic as you clearly understood that what Olivia did was something she did not enjoy. You get to hear what had happened to her when Olivia finally lets in Julian. Now Julian was kind of like a villain with his demanding ways but he changed, not to a perfect gentleman but more gentle, mostly due to finding out certain facts of Olivia. I liked that he changed some as he became a better fit for Olivia.
The romance between them is not exactly a happy one. They were in a situation that was where the male was usually the one in charge but with Olivia she made sure her suitors understood their place. That is of course not the case as Julian likes to be the only one in charge. That will create many problems but leads them to grow and learn to trust each other as things are shared. Though it is not that easy. They don’t just learn to love and live happily ever after. There will be problems but with how Campbell wrote the ending it was worth going through the trouble to get that happy ending.
I have one other book from Anna Campbell which I will be reading next.
Lady Cassandra Monroe has loved Julian since she was a young girl but he was to be engaged to her cousin. Cassie will get a chance to spend time with him under another identity.
Captain Julian Swift needed to break things off with his almost engagement as there were other things he had to concentrate on finding his brother. He also needed to end the engagement as he only thought about one woman, Cassie.
The Accidental Countess is the second book to the series Playful Brides by Valerie Bowman. I have to say that this book was a great followup to the first, I was entertained from start to finish. When I had read the first book I remember wanting to read the second book because I wanted to know more about Cassie and Julian, and how they would find their happy ending.
So basically this story stems from a lie which Lucy helped make up and Cassie followed. Cassie was to play another woman so she would get the chance to stay close to Julian. Personally I don’t understand why she could not have been herself and be by Julian, but that was how it happened. Now the lie was a bad idea right from the start because the truth would always come out. I knew it would get out of hand as Cassie kept her role. You got to read how the guilt was starting to form with Cassie every time she had to lie to Julian. I wanted her to be brave and to stand up and tell the truth. If that had happened then some of the heartbreak would not have happened. Though without heartbreak in the story it can be flat. Bowman will repair the heartbreak with the ending that left me smiling.
Margot Radcliffe had runaway from her home but will be back when tragedy strikes her family. Margot and her sisters will work together to try to save their family’s farm. The only problem was she had to try and hire back Travis who had rejected her all those years ago.
Travis Maher loved working with horses and was good at his job. He will be back working at Rosewood but will find that being that close to Margot was too tempting. He will succumb to his desire and show her that he had wanted her even back then.
Remember Me is the first book to the Rosewood Trilogy by Laura Moore. I had read the third book, Trouble Me, and thought it was a pretty great book. I will say that this first book was also a great book to read. Laura Moore captured me with the story and I kept going until the very end hoping for that ending where Margot and Travis finally get to be happy.
Margot was a woman who was thought to be spoiled but she was not really. She grew up privileged and then broke free. She went on her own to become a model and she had made it big. I liked that she defied her father and did not conform to what he wanted her to have. When Margot comes back to the farm she had to balance her career and to save her family farm. She is a strong woman who was doing what needed to be done, which lead her to rehire Travis. Now Travis was a man with his own past but he had become more than that. I liked Travis for the most part even though he hurt Margot, it wasn’t the right time for them to be with each other. They will get together and sparks will fly between them.
I liked the sisters and how they interacted with each other. Jade’s story I have already read and I thought it was interesting to read more about her and her rebellion that she had as a teenager. Now Jordan I felt bad for when she finds out some bad news which will carryover into the second book which is Jordan’s story.
I just now have to read the second book and I will be done with the Rosewood Trilogy.
