Annabelle Swift has loved Derek Knightly since she first got the job as a writer, three years ago. She was tired of waiting and wanted to do something to make him notice her, which was a difficult task.
Derek Knightly lived for his paper but there was another desire he wanted and that was for his half brother to acknowledge him. Derek needed to marry a woman of aristocratic birth. He had the perfect woman in mind but his eyes will be looking elsewhere, to his columnist Annabelle.
Seducing Mr. Knightly is the fourth and final book to the series Writing Girls by Maya Rodale. After reading the other three books I was anticipating for Knightly’s time in the spotlight and I have to say I was happy to read the book. Knightly is not your heroic character as his obsession was his newspaper and to be in the same social class as his half brother. Because of that ambition he was cruel at times and oblivious of certain things like how Annabelle was in love with him. I liked Annabelle and wanted her to find that happiness but I wondered at times if she should just cut her losses. Then again I wanted her to stick with Knightly because he was more than his newspaper, he was a man that deserved happiness as well.
Now I knew that in the end they would be together as Maya Rodale would not be cruel to the readers to deny us the happy ending for Derek and Annabelle. Well we get the ending it will just take a lot to get there. I was wondering how the story would go. My thought was she would try and succeed but then his ambition is too strong or he makes a stupid mistake and then they make up. There are parts to that plot which are true as it is a basic plot but how Rodale writes about this couple I found humor in the attempts of seduction. It was even sweet.
With the Writing Girl’s series I am done with the books I have to read from Maya Rodale. There are several more series and novels that I have yet to read from Rodale so I will have a selection to pick from when I come back to her books.
Lord Simon Roxbury was a rake and had no desire to change that is until his father too away his way of living. He was to marry or become penniless. Roxbury liked his wealth and reluctantly chose marriage which he found out would not be easy when a columnist decided to give rumor to him liking the opposite sex.
Lady Julianna Somerset created her column after her husband died. She lived for writing and was good at discovering peoples secrets. She will write a scandal relating to Lord Roxbury which will earn her an enemy with Roxbury. This will lead to her downfall in reputation which will lead her needing to work with Roxbury.
A Tale of Two Lovers is the second book to Maya Rodale’s series Writing Girls. This was another great book from the author. The plot flows easy as I read the story about Julianna and Roxbury.
Now this was a romance novel certainly as you can tell from the cover but these two characters were not in love whatsoever, at least not in the beginning. In the beginning they were mortal enemies. It was like they brought out the worst in each other yet underneath that anger was the wonder of seduction and lust. Roxbury was all about the seduction but it was more to teach her a lesson and Julianna thought about lust but did not want to push that idea to reality as she had been burned before in her previous marriage. They start getting along as they spend time with each other which is partly due to the need of repairing their reputations. I liked that they bonded over the hunt for the mysterious Man About Town and his identity.
Alright so now about the Man About Town this was a mystery. This person was a columnist who is competition for the Writing Girls. The person could be anyone but an older man since he had been doing the column for forty years. So my guess for this man was not even possible until Rodale gave one clue and then I knew exactly who this person was. I liked how Rodale ended it with this person which certainly gave Julianna the upper hand.
I am reading the fourth book next. I had previously read the third book to the series which featured Eliza. I can’t wait to find out more on Mr. Knightly.
Sophie Harlow had been left at the alter which was heartbreaking. She moved on with her life and became a writer. She would write about all the society weddings but her recent job will be difficult when she starts to have feelings for the groom.
Duke of Hamilton and Brandon was getting married to the perfect girl. She was beautiful, undemanding and was not in love with him. Brandon will find himself in trouble when his eyes drift longingly towards the writer who is doing the exclusive on his wedding.
A Groom of One’s Own is the first book to Maya Rodale by Writing Girls. I really enjoyed this book. Having already read the third book of the series I knew that I liked these woman and Rodale’s style of writing. Her writing is fun and she brings some humor to these characters with the situation they were getting themselves into, especially at the end.
So Brandon was engaged to Clarissa but he wanted another, Sophie, and she wanted him as well. Then Clarissa wanted her prince but was stuck being engaged to Brandon. It sounded like a play but these characters are clever enough and driven by love so they will find a way. Now there will be a problem with some secrets which are on Clarissa side. These secrets are a problem which threatened everyone from finding happiness. I will say I was a little surprised by the secret but it made sense.
I thought all characters had a place in the book and liked them all, well except for Lady Richmond. She was a piece of work and you wanted her to back off and let Clarissa find her own happiness.
Now the romance was something I loved in this book. It was a forbidden romance but I liked that even though the romance was forbidden no one was being really hurt because Brandon loved Sophie and Clarissa loved the prince.
Connor Creed is a hardworking rancher who is working on his uncle’s legacy. He will enjoy the work but when his estranged twin brother comes back home he will be angry. His thoughts though will be torn between his twin brother and a woman he was starting to have feelings for.
Tricia McCall was in Colorado to help sell her family’s property. She will find herself meeting up again with Connor. She will be torn as she was still in a relationship back in Seattle, although it was fading fast, but her feelings for Connor were strong.
Creed’s Honor is the second book to the series Creed Cowboy by Linda Lael Miller. I have read several books by her and found them heartwarming. This one is very much similar with the heartbreaking plot between the brothers and a promise of love between Connor and Tricia. I liked this story but I did feel like I was already in a story that was already being told. You can follow it along without any problem but there are times that I like to make sure I read a series from the beginning. I will have to find and read the first and third book to know all about this Creed family.
Now I am always one to love a love story and I thought that Connor and Tricia were sweet once they got around to admitting that they have feelings. So besides the love story there was intrigue that was with the twin brother, Brody. You disliked him for the smug way about him but I wondered if it was true. Well that thought really came about half way through the book. I wanted to believe in the brother as it felt there was something that was missing. Due to what you find out about Brody I really want to read the third book to know the entire story.
Lizette Henry wakes up one day and realizes that the woman looking back at her is unrecognizable. She will find that flashes of memory were coming back to her. She will also realize that she is being watched.
Shadow Woman is a novel by Linda Howard. Alright now overall I liked the book. I thought the beginning pulled me into the story with the shooting that had happened. Then with Lizette and how she did not know who she was. I was intrigued but at points I lost somewhat interest in the story. I think what threw me off the plot a little was this brainwashing. It was a little strange. Also I was frustrated as I wasn’t getting answer right away. Though Howard will give you answers of course and I will say that towards the end I was back into the story. I was getting a better insight with what was happening.
With this book it was hard to tell which person was the villain. I had a good idea who the bad guy was but there were other options. The qualifications of a hero was blurred which made that person almost villain like.
I do think that Linda Howard can write a well written suspense romance novel and I am looking forward to reading from from her.
Drea Rousseau was living a life she knew would end so she prepared herself. She took enough money that would keep her alive but she was not prepared for the assassin who Rafael Salinas put on her trail.
Death Angel is a novel by Linda Howard. This book was really good and it was more than it appeared to be. At first it was a survival book with Drea having to run for her life. Then a tragedy happens and a little supernatural comes into play. I thought the supernatural aspect was done well, it was just unexpected.
When I first started the book I was wondering who she would be with. I knew that this was a suspense romance so there was going to be someone Drea was going to be with. At first I thought maybe Rafael did love her but that was clearly not the case. I then thought maybe an FBI agent but instead her attention was with the assassin, well to a point. The assassin, Simon, was more than he appeared to be. You liked him but he was a bad man, then something inside him changes. I liked the change but he was still that ruthless killing machine.
I was pretty much on board throughout the entire book as it was engaging. I am on the lookout for more Linda Howard books and I am actually going to be reading another one next which is Shadow Woman.
Viscount Emilian St. Xavier was a half blood, half English and half Rom. He was stuck in two places where he did not know where he belonged. He will long for his Rom family and now want revenge for his mother but there will be someone who will divert his attention, Ariella.
Ariella de Warenne lived her life with independence and did not care about society. She will not be drawn towards any suitor until she meets the wild Rom, Emilian. She will want him but will not be prepared for the heartache that would follow.
A Dangerous Love is the eleventh book to the series De Warenne Dynasty by Brenda Joyce. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. There was love, betrayal, pain, heartbreak and lust.
Now this is not a love story that is perfect. There are ups and downs, though a lot more downs especially on Emilian’s side. He kept being cruel to push Ariella away. They were of two different types of people, he was a Rom and she was an Englishwoman. I liked Emilian because even when he was being cruel he was doing it to save Ariella. Now Ariella was sweet and independent. I felt annoyed at times how she would not give up and kept forgiving Emilian, she should have stayed mad at him for a little longer I think. There was one part in the book which had me thinking a happy ending was not going to happen. In that scene a tragedy happened and there was actually conflict which was heartbreaking.
I will definitely be back to this series to find out more on the family.
Chance Mackenzie had one target in mind but until know that man would stay alive. Chance will get lucky and find the terrorists daughter and use her as bait. He will feel remorse as he will quickly find himself caring for Sunny.
Sunny Miller had been on the run since before she was born. She was ready for anything expect a plane crash. Sunny will find herself stranded with a pilot though everything is not as it seems.
A Game of Chance is the fifth book to the series Mackenzie Family Saga series by Linda Howard. I found myself engrossed with the story. I wanted to know more about this family and what had happened to Sunny’s family. The book itself is just about 250 pages which went by quickly. The story was simple but I liked how Howard wrote the characters. They were each very strong and had secrets of their own but they were not sharing, at least not yet. Now even though the characters didn’t know each that well it did nothing to stop them when it came to those lustful feelings. Of course before this couple walks into the sunset they will have to resolve one tiny problem which is how to get over the fact that pretty much everything Chance told Sunny from the start had been a lie and to stop her father.
Well after reading the fifth book I find myself wondering how the series started. I know that I will be back to the MacKenzie Family Saga series.
Brynn of Falkhaar was a slave and healer. She will be brought to another man to be her master so that she could heal his warrior. She will do the task that is asked of her. She had expected the warrior to be harsh and to hurt her but she will be shocked to find that he is not like the other men.
Lord Gage Dumont was given a slave who was a healer so that his friend could be saved. He doubted her skills but soon would find that she was a gifted healer. Gage will also find himself starting to lust after her. He will want only her and for no one else to have her. Gage will fight to keep her safe.
Midnight Warrior is a novel by Iris Johansen. I haven’t read anything by Iris Johansen in a while but I knew that I would love this book since her novels are always entertaining. They can be a little long at times but they are worth the read. From the very first page of the book I was pulled right into the story and needed to finish so I kept reading until the last page.
I was captured by Brynn’s character and fascinated by her powers of healing. Although she was not the normal healer. She could heal by her touch and take the pain away but she had to link with that person. She was a strong woman with her opinions which got her punished though she never backed down. Gage’s character was a warrior but he was not the brute that he appeared. I liked that with Brynn he was gentle even though it seemed that he was forever yelling at her.
There were several side characters within the story and I have to say that I really liked Adwen and Malik. Adwen was a character that grew from the sickly wife to a strong woman who was willing to fight. Malik was the injured solider with a sense of humor and a bit of a player but his eyes were soon only on one woman. I liked that Adwen and Malik had a chance at happiness along with the main characters.
Maddie Fitzgerald will find that her life is in danger again. She had done what she could to survive and now it looked like she would have to disappear again, but the FBI agent Sam McCabe was not letting go.
Sam McCabe was playing a cat and mouse game with a killer that was taunting the FBI. Sam has had no luck with catching the killer until they find one victim that survived. Sam will make it his mission to keep Maddie safe but will find that she is hiding her own secrets.
Bait is a novel written by Karen Robards. This book captured my attention right from the beginning. I like these suspense books that have twists and turns that you didn’t exactly see coming.
Now sometimes those twists were easy to see like with Maddie. You knew that she had experience with running since she had an escape route. What I didn’t know was what she was running from. Robards doesn’t leave you in the dark for long. I really liked Maddie’s character. I thought she was resourceful and smart. She was a survivor and it showed. Though she wasn’t superwoman so there was fear that she displayed throughout the book. Now Sam was a good man and FBI agent. He took his job seriously and was smart but was in a tough situation with the killer.
The killer was playing the game of cat and mouse but he was not being very fair with the FBI. He would give a clue like the first name or last name of the person he was going after. There would be no way the FBI would be able to find the killer or the victim in time. So it was a little unfair for the FBI, though I suppose the killer wouldn’t really care about that.
