Since I was on a kick for the regency romance novels lately I decided to go for one modern day romance. Talk Me Down was the book. The moment I started I wanted to finish to see how it would end and who this stalker was. But Victoria Dahl leaves the reader wanting more and gives a twist that was not seen coming, a good misdirection.
Molly Jennings had a secret. She was a closet erotic writer. Her work had been published and no one knows that she is an author as it is under a different name. Molly now has no choice but to move back home as her life got much more difficult with her ex boyfriend. But moving back to Tumble Creek would be a great thing as her life fantasy will be in front of her.
Ben Lawson or Chief Lawson is the local lawman of the town and knows everyone. He is surprised to see Molly but not his reaction to her. Since that night when he was twenty two Molly looked different. Now was his chance to be with Molly even though he knew he shouldn’t with all that he doesn’t know about her. But sparks will fly and Ben will be there for her even when trouble starts out her window.
Getting a hold of the novel Talk Me Down I knew I would like it but this was a really fantastic book to read. As a romance it has all the scenes which will make you melt but there is an added feature of mystery and suspense that fits right into the story.
I love Molly and her quick wit and sexual drive. She is a little out there and that makes the book fun. While Ben is just the heartthrob who has a soft spot for his friends little sister. Together they really steam up the pages.
Victoria Dahl tells a great story and I can’t wait to read the next in her Tumble Creek series.
Once I finished Vicky Dreiling first novel I found myself wanting more and I had to wait a little for the sequel. Waiting is the most frustrating part when you find an author you want to continue with their work. The second book, How to Seduce a Scoundrel was worth the wait.
Lady Julianne Gatewick has been in love with one man for a long time and now she needs to show him but every time she tries he treats her like a child. Worse he treats her like his sister. She thought with him as her guardian she would have a chance but when it dwindles she comes up with a plan thanks to his outlandish Aunt she will find the way to seduce a rake.
Marc Darcet, the Earl of Hawkfield known as Hawk is a rake through and through. He doesn’t want to be the guardian of his friends sister but he does it anyways. He thinks it will be an easy task as they had always been friends but soon it all changes. His Julie-girl was not an easy girl any more, she was a woman and Hawk is finally seeing it but she is forbidden. But all is not easy with Hawk as he has something he is running from, Julianne might be the only one to help him.
I found myself realizing that Dreiling is very good at prolonging what you want to happen most, and in this case it is Hawk and Julianne to find happiness together. Dreiling doesn’t disappoint but it takes a while.
I love the light banter which happens. Hawk’s character finds his feelings develop in a much more slow rate where as Julianne has loved him for most of her life. But this was not just a love story. Dreiling gets the reader into the plot with the creation of the pamphlet Julianne creates with the help of Hawk’s aunt, Hester (who I loved in the book). The story which is created is funny way which Julianne grows up and learns about herself and becomes stronger.
Dreiling also lets Hawk to go within the book which you long for. Throughout the entire book you know he had something which happened to him but was not sure of the situation. I thought it was a cruel joke which was played and of course a woman would be involved but there was more to it. Dreiling does a good job leading the reader through the story giving hints and finally at the end you know the secret.
At the end of the book I went in search of who would be in the next novel and I was happy to see it was going to be Amy and Will. I like that Dreiling is keeping with the theme of rakes and how the woman will be reforming them in some way.
Throughout the entire story of Confessions of an Improper Bride you will truly feel for the delema which she goes through and the one man she gave her heart too. Jennifer Haymore creates a story where you will want the rogue and the lady to be together even if it causes discord through the story as they are meant to be together.
Serena Donovan was renounced dead to the world six years ago but the reality was that Meg her twin sister had perished overboard on the very ship. As Serena had been disgraced she was the one to take Meg’s place little did Serena actually know. Until six years later she winds up engaged to the man Meg had loved while hers was nowhere to be seen.
Jonathon Dare made a mistake six years ago and that was letting Serena leave and tear her reputation apart and regret sets in as she has perished. But six years later Jonathon gets a look at Meg and all he sees is Serena and her subtle gestures. Jonathon sets out to find out who perished on that ship those six years ago and if it wasn’t Serena he knew he had to win her back.
The series Donovan starts with this book and I will be interested in how the stories progress with the other two sisters who will have their role to play. Haymore does a great job with getting the reader to be softened by the scarfices which Serena had to make in order to keep her family together. You also feel for the betrayal which Jonathon did to her and it is satisfying that she does not leap into his arms but keeps him at a distance.
And of course Jonathon’s character you feel pity as the future for the two are bleak. Secretly as the reader you want him to suffer as he was not able to stand up to his family and follow love. But as with all romances secret affairs will start and a blossom new beginnings will be on their way.
Being left at the alter twice now has Gwen Maudsley rethinking what she is doing with her life. She is always the nice girl and now is going to be wicked. She wants to enjoy a certain passion as she will journey to Paris to find her brothers ring. She will not be alone in this adventure as a friendly face joins her who is like her brother but her feelings towards him are anything like a sibling.
Alexander Ramsey had taken it upon himself to help out Gwen because he promised her brother. Alex though is starting to see her change and doesn’t want it but that idea changes as Gwen starts include him on the plan. He is being seduced by Gwen and he fights it but the fight will only last a little while.
Meredith Duran will leave you wanting more as Gwen and Alex are discovering each other in Wicked Becomes You. I liked the concept of the plot. I thought it was interesting to read how the nice girl gets jilted twice and her solution is to become wicked and the opposite of her old self. I also liked how Alex resisted and played the way of a big brother but his feelings were anything but brotherly.
Duran gives a chance for Gwen’s character to grow and change in the ways which were needed and Wicked Becomes You is that journey.
Serena Marsh is used to the life of luxury but all that is about to change when her father forces her to come to Scotland for a visit. But the visit turns longer and Serena is stuck unless she wants to desert her father.
Malcolm Slayter comes into the lives of the Marsh’s as a protector but soon a fire is lite when he encounters Serena. Malcolm keeps his word to protect Serena in and out of bed especially when trouble comes knocking on her door.
Secrets to Seducing a Scot is the first book of the series Highland Knaves by Michele Marcos and it is thrilling while being seducing with the characters.
From the first page you are drawn in to the horrors which are so cruel to a family who only wants peace. As the reader you are now invested in how Malcolm will overcome this tragedy.
I love how Serena is portrayed as a spoiled woman, even though she really is not, but learns quickly to handle the serious issues which will come her way.
I am excited about reading the next of the children which survived the brutal attack on the family. Secrets to Seducing a Scot was a fantastic start to this Highland Knaves series.
Being rushed away and exiled from the one place you have ever known is not easy. The royal family is kicked out and all separated while some have died. Princess Clarice is the second daughter and is on her own with her younger sister Amy. They must find a way to survive and get back to their home. Clarice believes in her duty while Amy does not. Clarice though will find a problem when she encounters a man who will make it hard for her to leave.
Robert MacKenzie, the earl of Hepburn is weary of this new person who pretends to be a princess. But Robert will find a way for Clarice to be useful. Of course he did not expect to find more with Princess Clarice. He will use her for a scheme but will find himself helping her as well.
Some Enchanted Evening is just the first of three novels in the series Lost Princesses from Christina Dodd. The book was fun and energetic and left with a good cliff hanger making you want to read the next book.
Christina Dodd keeps the book going with action and clever characters who hold true through the book. I also loved how Dodd created Clarice who only knew her duty/honor but soon that fell away as she found something more which of course was love.
Robert was also fun to read about as he was headstrong but he cared about the ones that he loved which kept him interesting.
Some Enchanted Evening was a great first book to the series.
Wow! That is the only word for the first book of the series Edge of Honor. Lori Foster starts with a bang with When You Dare and will not stop until you finish the book. The summary of the book got my interest but it wasn’t pulling me to read it like so many of Foster’s books but once you start there is no stopping. I kept reading in one sitting from the first page to the very last.
Dare Macintosh is a professional mercenary and is on a mission to find his best friends sister who has been taken. Dare accomplishes his mission but is now strapped with another complication. He picks up Molly who was there with Alani but Molly did not fit the right image to human trafficking. Dare knew she would not survive so he took her as it was the right thing to do. But Dare has questions and only this woman would be able to tell him.
Molly Alexander was taken. Her body hurt, her mind not clear. She still had no idea why all she knew was she was safe with this man named Dare. Molly knew the one thing she had to do and that was to find out who would kidnap her. As a writer she had a few enemies but none she knew that would go to this extreme. Molly will put her trust into Dare as they faced her attackers and the attraction which sizzled between them.
As I read the book I was in awe of how much I really liked the story. The characters were hard edged, complicated and multidimensional. The plot as well had many quirks that made you smile and fantastic twists that you could see happening but you get so wrapped up into the story you only concentrated on the subject at hand.
Dare, wow. He was fantastic. I loved his sexual tension, his macho tendencies and his love for his dogs and friends. Chris who was a friend was delightful. He was quirky and just right. As with Molly she was incredible with her strength through the entire plot. As the reader you cheered her on.
The villain was not clear or at least suspected but Foster did a good job at giving subtle hints and wrong misdirection. Along with multiple characters who could be the bad guy. And the villain was obsessed in a quiet way which gave plot mystery and a really good betrayal.
I was interested to know if Foster would give Alani her own story and happily I found out she will in the third book. This looks to be like a series which will hopefully continue with many more but no one knows except the author. Pick up and enjoy When You Dare and once you are done get ready for the second book with Trace in Trace of Fever.
