In the first series of the San Francisco Dog Walking Group Susan Donovan dishes out fun, complicated characters with lovable animals that keep them company in Ain’t Too Proud to Beg.
Josie Sheehan has realized that love is not for her. Men are not for her until she meets up with a groomer who is really the CEO of the company she loves going to. Things will sizzle as Josie takes the initatize and ask out Rick Rousseau.
Rick Rousseau avoids woman, avoids, drugs, alcohol, anything that will turn him back to the man he was. But with the nudge of a labradoodle he is pushed in a relationship. He didn’t expect it but neither did he want to ruin it. His past had many ghost and one was still following him. He would protect Josie from his past and the man that wanted him dead.
The story is fun and sweet with the friends and added companions in the form of four legged creators. But Donovan creates the plot to hold some sabotage and betrayal which will create our characters.
I liked how Donovan created Rick’s character to be imperfect with a past which would keep him lonely for the rest of his life. His past will give the reader triumph as he fights to keep what he has built and found to be meaningful.
Ain’t Too Proud to Beg is a fun start of the series which these wacky but loyal friends.
