Becoming introduced to Gena Showalter’s novels was incredible luck. Picking up a book you don’t always know is chancy but I knew from the first book of the series Imperia that I was hooked to Showalter still. Quickly I went to find the sequel, The Pleasure Slave.
When Santa Fe antique dealer Julia Anderson was curiously drawn to purchase a battered jewerly box, she never expected it to contain her won personal love slave. Especially not tall, dark and sinfully handsome Tristan-a man hard to resist, and determined to fulfill her every desire.
Though Tristan was a rogue of the battlefield and the boudior, making love with Julia was like nothing he’d ever known. Yet revealing his true heart would break the centuries-old spell and separate them forever. And Tristan would do anything to go on loving Julia…even remain a slave through all eternity…
The Pleasure Slave was an incredible sequel to the Imperia series.
The characters and plot is very similar were the man wants nothing but to give in every desire to the woman who is called his master. Julia is priceless with her ability to want to set him free.
The idea of aliens is strange but really they are just magical people from another planet. Not your typical aliens you think of. But I like the idea behind the story and how they are not vampires or werewolves. They are a little different and have the ability to use magic.
The book holds comical dialogue and scenes which will make you laugh. Then there are those parts that make you cringe and hate the enemy. But when all is lost there is still some bit of hope in the mess of everything.
Gena Showalter delivers a sexy and funny story to the pages. Irresistible to read and can’t be put down.
Only in the dead of night will she come to find her true love but can she make him hers forever…
Amanda Quick writes Dangerous which is an intriguing, mysterious love story through the Victorian period.
The Plot of Dangerous:
“At five and twenty, Prudence Merryweather knew very well the risks a woman took by visiting a gentlman in the dead of night. But bearding teh notorious Earl of Angelstone in his den was the only way to stop him from engaging her hot-headed brother in a duel. And that was why she found herself ushered into Sebastians forbidding presence at three in the morning-and thoroughly kissed before dawn.
She was a country-bred innocent and an intriguing experience for a man who dwelt more in the shadows than in the sunshine. Yet as her boldness drew Prue into one dangerous episode after another, Sebastian found himself torn between a raging hunger to possess her and a driving need to protect her. And the reckless beauty would soon need all the protection she could get…”
Amanda Quick really is one of my favorite romance authors. I am always drawn into her books. In this particular book Quick shows her wit with the characters as she pairs up Prue and Sebastian. I love how Sebastian is an oddity and doesn’t care what others think. Prue cares but wants to make everything okay along with Sebastian’s family.
Then as you are done with the character dynamic’s there is the plot which is another driving force of this novel. I was blown away by how the plot of murder was swept into the plot without it being obvious and the same with the villain. You thought you knew but wasn’t sure.
Dangerous was fantastic to read with the danger, paranormal activity, intrigue, wit, adventure and love underneath it all.
Reading one book from Gena Showalter and I found myself hooked. Her style of wit and sensual characters/plot were incredible to read. They were enticing to read about. I was lucky to find Showalter as an author with reading her first book Catch a Mate which was unbelievable. I knew that she was an author to look out for. So now I venture off to one of her series. The first book of the series Imperia is The Stone Prince.
Katie James is unlucky in love-so unlucky she’s been reduced to kissing the marble statue in her own garden. But her luck changes when the statue warms to life in her arms-and turns out to be a hunk straight out of any woman’s fantasy! Well, almost…Jorlan en Sarr hails from a distant planet and like all the other men Katie’s known, he ocmes with a lot of baggage.
Entombed in his stony skin for centuries, Jorlan has been waiting for a maiden fair to break the spell. Yet this statuesque beauty with the will of an Amazon and kisses like flame is a far cry from the obedient damsels of Imperia. And though Jorlan is tempted to abandon all for the sake of Katie, unless he can convince her to give him her heart in two weeks time, he’ll be turned back to stone. And she’ll be lost to him forever.
I loved this book. The Stone Prince was not the most original idea but I like the added in with Jorlan being an alien of kinds. The book was witty and fun to read.
The characters of the five brothers were priceless. They brought a lot of human and cavemen attitudes to the book but then so did Jorlan. Katie though was her own cavewoman which I loved. She didn’t take the crap thrown at her and stood up for herself. She didn’t obey or become a meek little woman.
Gena Showalter shows that love can start from anywhere even a statue.
Kerrelyn Sparks brings her fifth book with Ian making his way into the vampire world but with a new look about him.
The Plot of All I Want For Christmas Is A Vampire:
“This Christmas isn’t so merry for Toni. Her best friend’s been locked up in a mental hospital ever since she told the police she was attacked by vampires, and the only way for Toni to get her out is to prove that bloodsuckers really do exist. So she’s taken a job as a bodyguard for the Undead, but she gets more than she bargained for, especially when she meets Ian MacPhie, a Scottish rascal looking for Ms. Right.
Although Ian’s nearly five centuries old, he looks and acts like a twenty-seven-year-old hunk. How can a dead man be so damn sexy? Could Mr. Wrong be Mr. Right? One forbidden kiss could lead to an eternity of passion-and all it takes is one moment under the mistletoe…”
I am actually very glad to have found this author. For her writing about the supernataural of vampires I love her humor among the Undead. Ian is a fantastic character who has now changed but he can’t change his old fashioned ways which I love. Then there is Toni who is helping the vampires but really helping herself. But I love her strength. And they are perfect together.
In the book there are going to be surprises. More were-animals, a panther and a bear. Then there is Constantine who is even more different from just hoovering. He is possibly a healer? I am still confused. And then Vampire blood just might be a cure for humans who are in trouble and that will help for Toni. Then there is a little humor with Ian as he goes on the search for his true love but he does it through 21 century technology, which is funny to read about.
Kerrelyn Sparks is a hit with All I Want For Christmas Is A Vampire. There is a lot of wit, adventure and humor thrown into the mix and is a pleasure to read.
“Three days after arriving in Galveston, newly widowed Sage McMurray is furious. She’d been gone from Texas long enough to forget what it takes to survive on the frontier, and finds herself taken hostage in a robbery. Sage fears if the outlaws discover who she is, she may never see Whispering Mountain again.
Her fears are about to come true when the outlaws decide to auction off their pretty captive to the highest bidder, and a tall stranger offers twice the highest bid.
Drummond Roak has grown in the years since Sage left. He now makes his living as a gunfighter, but his love for her has never changed. While fighting to keep her alive, he is also determined to convince the Texas beauty that beneath his wild ways is a man worth loving…”
I fell in love with this book. As the fourth book I thought that all of them were fantastic but this one was really fun to read being that it was about Sage the only sister of the McMurray men. The book had a lot of charm especially at the end of the book.
The characters of Sage and Drummond are fun to read how they bicker at everything they do. They are horrible together and perfect together. I love how finally Drummond will finally get his woman Sage and show her just how much he has changed. And Sage will finally see that as well.
It was fun to see that four years have gone by and you see how the family have grown. Each of the brothers and wives have their own children.
The Lone Texan was the perfect end of this four series book. Jodi Thomas brings wit, humor, adventure and an enduring type of love that will survive long after.
“Teagen McMurray would ride to hell and back to protect his land. He’d certainly never felt that way about a woman. At least not until Jessie Barton showed up with her three little girsl, desperate for a place to stay. Suddenly he finds himself proposing marriage, telling himself it is only to protect her and her children…
Jessie had no place to go except Whispering Mountain-and to Teagen, the one person who couldn’t deny her, thanks to the correspondence he shared with her dead husband. But what will happen when the man she’s loved through his letters discovers her tangle of lies?”
Jodi Thomas brings her third book of Whispering Mountain, Tall, Dark, and Texan. Wow is all I can say. Each book I read of this gets better and better. I love the basic plot of the characters. That Teagen is a man who likes to trust and Jessie is a woman who will be honest unless she is protecting the ones she loves. I love that she is the actual pen pal of Teagen’s and not her husbands. I also like that Teagen will teach Jessie what it is to have a pleasurable sexual experience but Jessie will teach him what it is like to love.
The three girls are a pleasant addition to this witty family of Texan men. Then we have the character of Drummond Roak who is back and is planning to take Sage as his woman. I have a feeling that the fourth book will give Drummond that chance.
Tall, Dark, and Texan is a charming, humoress, and touching third book of the series.
“Hiding out from her fiance in her father’s barn, Liberty Mayfield can’t deny that she made the biggest mistake of her life when she agreed to marry ruthless Captain Samuel Buchanan. If only she could find a way to stop the wedding without risking her father’s life…
Ever since he defended the Whispering Mountain Ranch as a boy, Tobin McMurray vowed to steer clear of outsiders to keep something about Liberty Mayfield makes it impossible to keep his distance. Every minute spent with the vulnerable beauty leaves him hungering for something he swore he’d never have: a wife and a family. Unfortunately, the woman who has ignited his desire is about to marry another man…”
The second book, Texas Princess is absolutely a fantastic sequel to the series. There were amazing love scenes and description of the wild west. Jodi Thomas brings the very strong and dynamic characters to the book. Liberty was the strong willed wealthy daughter of the senator who was getting her world turned upside down. When she sees what she has in front of her, she is willing to walk away even though that is everything she needs. Then there is Tobin who fights for those he loves and wants to find love but is afraid so he steers away from it. But Liberty will not be far from his mind and he will find everything with her.
The story is a great adventure for these two characters. There was love and heartache especially for Sage when she finds out her Ranger was killed but there is some foreshadowing of a character Drum, a 16 year old orphan and will just might be the one for Sage. Of course he is three years younger and Sage swears that will never happen. Drum’s character is fantastic to read about as he is a stranger who helps but vanishes away before anything really happens.
Thomas brings the McMurray’s back with Texas Princess.
